Kafue National Park

Nestled in the heart of western Zambia, Kafue National Park stands as Zambia’s oldest and largest national park, spanning an impressive 22,400 km² (8,650 mi²).

First established in the 1920s and officially designated as a national park in the 1950s by the visionary conservationist Norman Carr, Kafue ranks among Africa’s most expansive wildlife reserves. Despite its vast size and proximity to Livingstone, just a two-hour drive away. Kafue National Park remains a hidden gem, with much of its pristine wilderness still untouched and waiting to be explored. The park’s diverse landscapes create the perfect environment for a remarkable array of wildlife species.

In recent years, Kafue has experienced a thoughtful increase in safari camps and lodges, attracting more visitors and boosting investment in the area. This growth has enhanced the park’s infrastructure, with improved roads and new airstrips making access more convenient.

With growing interest and investment, African Parks & the Department of National Parks & Wildlife (DNPW), in collaboration with local operators, has been able to bolster wildlife protection efforts. These partnerships are helping to safeguard Kafue’s rich biodiversity, ensuring the park remains a sanctuary for generations to come.
